Meet the HyLICAL Team: Lorenzo Ferrari, University of Pisa

Continuing our series on the brilliant minds driving the HyLICAL project, we’re excited to introduce Lorenzo Ferrari, Professor of Energy Systems at the University of Pisa.

Role in HyLICAL

Within the HyLICAL project, In the project the UNIPI research team focuses on simulating and optimizing hydrogen liquefaction for enhanced energy efficiency, playing a pivotal part in paving the way for safer, more accessible, and economically viable solutions.

In this interview, Dr. Lorenzo Ferrari shared with us some insights into HyLICAL:

What about the HyLICAL project do you find the most interesting?

The most intriguing aspect of the HyLICAL Project is the opportunity to make hydrogen liquefaction easier, safer, and more economically viable, potentially acting as a game changer in the field of hydrogen liquefaction.

In which key sectors can HyLICAL’s research results be practically used?

HyLICAL’s research results can revolutionize hydrogen liquefaction, benefiting green hydrogen adoption across various sectors, including heavy-duty mobility (marine, commercial transport, trains, aviation, and aerospace), renewable energy solutions, and industrial applications.

How will HyLICAL benefit the general public?

Widespread adoption of green hydrogen, facilitated by HyLICAL, will significantly reduce fossil fuel use, leading to a notable decrease in CO2 emissions. As we move away from fossil fuel dependency, we’re not just reducing environmental impact – we’re creating a pathway to a cleaner and healthier planet.
