Meet the HyLICAL Team: Rasmus Bjørk, Technical University of Denmark

Join HyLICAL on our innovative journey as we continue introducing the pioneering experts driving the project.

Today, we’re delighted to share the insights of Rasmus Bjørk, Professor at DTU Energy.

Role in HyLICAL

In the HyLICAL project, the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) is tasked with designing the demonstrator hydrogen liquefier using advanced numerical models. These models calculate the device’s performance based on various design variables to ensure optimal functionality. Using a superconducting magnetic field from HZDR, DTU will determine the best regenerator geometry, heat transfer fluid, and operational parameters by analyzing their impact on performance. Additionally, DTU will focus on designing the heat exchanger and will collaborate closely with other partners on material design and the construction of the demonstration prototype.

What about the HyLICAL project do you find the most interesting?

The fact that within HyLICAL project we will create a real prototype device capable of producing liquified hydrogen! This will require very tight collaboration between all partners, but reaching this milestone will have a substantial impact on the green transition.

In which key sectors can HyLICAL’s research results be practically used?

HyLICAL’s research results are a game-changer in the green transition as a whole, but particularly in sectors relying on the production of liquid hydrogen. From energy storage to transportation and energy generation, the possibilities are vast and transformative.

How will HyLICAL benefit the general public?

HyLICAL will pave the way towards a sustainable future by making the production of liquid hydrogen affordable and accessible. As a crucial element in the green transition, this accessibility to cleaner energy solutions opens doors to reducing our carbon footprint and propelling us towards a sustainable future.
